History of the Parish

Catholicism was promoted here by the Jesuit missionaries around 1750. Catholics from Krishnapuram, Sri Rayappa Reddy and his family moved to Pedda Arikottala. From there they came to Ponnapatty and from Ponnapatty to P. Yaleru.

It was under the Pondicherry missions. The priests from Bellary used to visit this mission. Fr. Doyle, who was coming from Bellary, used to visit this station. Fr. Doyle bought 22 acres of land where the old priests' house stood.

Later, from Guntakal, the Mill Hill Fathers visited and looked after this station. A chapel was built in the land given by Sri Marianna. The chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.

Jesuit Missionaries Arrive
Catholicism was promoted in the region by Jesuit missionaries. Sri Rayappa Reddy and family from Krishnapuram settled in Pedda Arikottala.

Pondicherry Era
Bellary Mission Visits
Under the Pondicherry missions, Fr. Doyle from Bellary regularly visited the station and acquired 22 acres of land for the mission.

Mill Hill Era
Chapel Built — Our Lady of Lourdes
Mill Hill Fathers from Guntakal took over. A chapel was built on land donated by Sri Marianna, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.

Father Vijaya Amrutha Raj Suripogula is a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Kurnool, India, ordained on February 20, 2014. He has served with deep devotion to spreading the message of Divine Mercy among the faithful.

During his ministry, he encountered Saint Faustina's Diary — Divine Mercy in My Soul — and felt a call to bring its transformative message to the Telugu-speaking faithful through his book "Why Mercy".

He currently serves the parish community with pastoral care, sacramental ministry, and a personal mission of mercy and compassion.
